Social Inclusion Team

Community Safety and Partnerships Team

The Community Safety Team from our Social Justice Unit leads and co-ordinates the Council's statutory duty to maintain an effective Community Safety Partnership, delivering a joined-up approach to reducing crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour. We oversee the Community Safety Partnership Plan 2024-2028, which is structured around eight strategic themes led by senior management and governed through the quarterly Community Safety Partnership Executive. The team also plays a key role in building community cohesion and resilience across Luton by strengthening partnerships, supporting inclusive engagement, and addressing issues that impact on community confidence and trust. In addition we coordinate support for People Seeking Sanctuary, working closely with the Home Office and partner agencies to manage risk, ensure safeguarding, and support safe integration into local communities.

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Team

The E&D team supports a wide range of initiatives, including the annual Black Lives Matter Motion report to Full Council and the Council’s Anti‑Racism Charter, which guides the Council's commitment to becoming a non‑racist organisation. They also develop and strengthen Staff Networks, with a focus on groups representing protected characteristics, and lead the EDI Coordinators Team to help ensure services are inclusive, accessible, and fair. In addition, they provide oversight for Community EDI networks, supporting groups including Black African Caribbean, South Asian, Eastern European, Women, Men, Faith, LGBTQIA+, Gypsy Roma Traveller (GRT), and Disability communities.
