Where We Are Now

The Luton Fairness Taskforce has moved from building strong foundations to driving real, visible change across the town. Since launching in 2021, it has grown into a citizen led think and do tank, bringing together residents, community groups, faith organisations, businesses and public services to shape a fairer Luton.

Now it it's 2026-2027 phase, the focus is clear : turning community insight into action. As part of the wider Luton 2040 vision, the Taskforce continues to ensure that lived experience sits at the heart of decision making, while challenging the barriers that prevent people from thriving.

Over the past year this approach has led to tangible progress. Key priorities identified through community conversations such as mental health support for young people, accessibility for disabled residents, stronger neighbourhoods, and financial resilience - are now shaping funding priorities, local strategies and new initiatives across town.

Programmes like Leading Luton are building local leadership and confidence, while Innovation and Collaboration funding is supporting grassroots projects to test new ideas and solutions. At the same time, partnerships across sectors are becoming stronger. heling organisations work more collaboratively and respond earlier to community needs.

Crucially, the Taskforce is also learning as it grows. Evaluation and community research are helping to ensure that what works is understood, shared and scaled.

The Taskforce is no longer just creating space for conversation - it is becoming a platform for action, influence and long term change. This next phase will focus on deepening impact, strengthening collaboration, and continuing to build a Luton where everyone has a voice and a fair chance to thrive.
